A truly heartbreaking scene unfolded in Serbia this past weekend as players from Radnički 1923 collapsed onto the pitch, overcome with grief after learning their head coach, Mladen Žižović, had tragically died from a heart attack during their match against Mladost.
The incident occurred 22 minutes into the Sunday evening match when Žižović suddenly collapsed on the sideline. Medical personnel immediately rushed onto the field to administer emergency treatment, and the game was halted while the coach was stabilized before being transported to the hospital.
Tragically, just 20 minutes after the match resumed, the devastating news arrived confirming that Žižović had passed away en route to the hospital. The announcement caused immediate devastation: players sunk to the turf in tears, some stared down in disbelief, and others dropped to one knee in tribute.
A heavy silence fell over the stadium as players, staff, and fans struggled to process the shocking event. Radnički 1923 later released a statement expressing "deep grief and disbelief" over Žižović’s passing.
The club paid tribute to the coach, stating: "He was a person of great knowledge, calmness, and noble character who left a deep impression wherever he worked."
