Another £100 Million Splurge? Sky Sports: Liverpool Absolutely Have Financial Power to Sign Ouattara & Guéhi in January Window

According to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam on the *Inside Liverpool* program, the Reds are actively planning and progressing with their recruitment for the January transfer window.

Regarding Liverpool's plans for the winter window, the reporter stated: "They absolutely have the financial capacity to make moves in January, and Marc Guéhi and Dango Ouattara are two key targets they are monitoring. Liverpool is one of the clubs that relies on data analysis for player recruitment; that has always been their operating model. If the player fits the club, represents fair market value, and improves the squad, will they act? The answer is yes."

"They are active in the market, looking to strengthen the squad. On summer deadline day, they attempted to sign Marc Guéhi but were unsuccessful. Are they still looking for a defensive center-back? Without a doubt. Could a deal happen in January? Absolutely."

"Discussing Guéhi specifically, his contract has just six months remaining. In January, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside the Premier League, or wait until the summer for a more substantial signing-on fee and salary, allowing him to choose among Europe's top clubs."

"Bournemouth's Dango Ouattara is another player admired by Liverpool. We know Manchester City, Tottenham, and other major European clubs also hold him in high regard – his contract includes a release clause. This is one to watch. Does Liverpool need wide players? Absolutely."

    On Liverpool's Operational Health:

"Liverpool's operations are very healthy. They spent almost nothing in the 2024 summer window. Although this summer's total expenditure of £446.5 million set a Premier League record, it's important to note their net spend was actually lower than Arsenal's."

"This is thanks to excellent player sales – selling academy graduates or long-serving players meant they didn't have to pay significant sell-on fees to other clubs, ultimately achieving very high profits. Spreading the £218.5 million net spend across the 2025 and 2024 summer windows averages out to just about £109 million per year, which is not considered high for a Premier League club."
