Manchester City and Italy national team goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma discussed his emotional departure from Paris Saint-Germain and his quick adaptation to life at the Etihad in a recent interview with Sky Sport.

Donnarumma admitted his exit from Paris was difficult and painful, particularly since he had just helped the club win their first-ever Champions League trophy. He expressed feeling "let down" by the club, stating that he had invested considerable effort into adapting to a specific system which completely disappeared in his final months there. He called the abrupt change "a real shame" and was disappointed by the way the situation was handled, though he acknowledged that he must move on.

Regarding his move to Manchester City, Donnarumma revealed that star striker Erling Haaland played a key role in the transfer. He described Haaland as an "extraordinary" person and a close friend, with whom he maintained contact even when they were rivals. When the offer came from City, Haaland personally messaged him to encourage the transfer.

Donnarumma stated he felt extremely lucky to now be playing alongside Haaland, whom he referred to as "an alien" and one of the best players in the world, noting the relief of no longer having to face him as an opponent.

The Italian goalkeeper has secured six clean sheets in his first 12 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side. He credited the entire Manchester City squad for their "extreme warmth," which helped him settle quickly in the Premier League. He emphasized that the immediate support from his teammates was vital for adapting to the intense pace of English football. Donnarumma also praised Guardiola, calling him a very special coach whose guidance has been a dream for any player.
