Suriname Official: Stanley Menzo Steps Down as Head Coach Ahead of World Cup Playoffs

The Suriname Football Association (SFA) announced via social media that Stanley Menzo has formally resigned as the national team's head coach.

According to ESPN, Menzo's decision came after an "in-depth evaluation" of the recent international cycle, during which Suriname failed to secure direct qualification for the World Cup. Following consultation with General Manager Brian Tevreden, Menzo decided to step down immediately.

This means Suriname will be without Menzo’s leadership for their critical World Cup playoff against Bolivia in March. In a statement released by the SFA on Instagram, Menzo was quoted as saying: "In March, the national team faces a crucial international window. At this moment, we must give everything to achieve our shared dream, the dream of the Surinamese people." He added that while he believes the dream remains strong and achievable, he felt that stepping down at this time was the correct choice.

Menzo’s second tenure with the team officially concludes after achieving several notable accomplishments: qualification for the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals, securing a spot in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and helping the team secure their place in the Intercontinental World Cup playoffs. Menzo ended his statement by wishing the players and staff "luck, strength, and success" for the decisive match against Bolivia.
