Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol on El Chiringuito reported an update on Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso’s precarious position, particularly concerning the upcoming Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Pedrerol conveyed information from within the club stating that, despite doubts following the recent loss to Celta Vigo, the hierarchy's current goal is to continue backing and supporting Alonso. He noted that after the initial emotional reaction to the loss, a calmer analysis led to the highest demands being placed on the players and coaches, prioritizing solutions.
However, the reporter revealed a critical scenario: if the situation deteriorates to an unsustainable level, a managerial change would be unavoidable around the Christmas period. Specifically, Pedrerol suggested that if Pep Guardiola's Manchester City were to inflict a massive defeat on Real Madrid—such as scoring four or more goals—he doubts the club could retain Alonso, despite their stated goal of continued support.
Regarding potential successors, Pedrerol claimed that names like Zinedine Zidane and Jürgen Klopp, who had been mentioned as fan favorites, have been ruled out of contention by club sources.
